If you’ve recently received a phone call from the tax bureau reminding you to change your company’s operation address to your actual operating address, you’re not alone. A lot of businesses are getting this notice.
You might be wondering: “Why can’t I just keep using the address I originally registered with?”
Good question. Here’s the simple breakdown. There are two situations:
Situation 1: You Registered Using a Real Office you rented
If you rented a physical office space and registered your company there — great news. That address is your actual operating address. No action needed.
Situation 2: You Registered Using a Registration-only Address
This is common for many smaller businesses. The address you used was only for company registration — it’s not where you actually run your business. Why does that matter? Because if the tax bureau needs to reach you (for letters, notices, or even a visit), that address is empty. They can’t find you there. And they can’t deliver anything to you either.
So if you fall into Situation 2, you’ll need to update your business address to where you’re really working from.
Question
“But will my local tax office change if I update my address?”
The short answer is: No.Updating your actual operating address will not change which tax bureau governs your company. You’ll stay under the same tax office as before.
